AARP, in cooperation with the United Nations Programme on Ageing, Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), and United Nations University (UNU) organized a series of luncheon briefings on key global aging issues from February 8-9, 2011.

The fifth annual AARP UN Briefing Series commemorated the UN Commission for Social Development 49th session (February 8-19, 2011), which devoted its priority theme to "Poverty Eradication". To inform the discussions of the commission, innovative ideas in combating poverty along with the opportunities and challenges of global aging were discussed. AARP, UNDESA and UNU convened two luncheon briefings which brought together government delegates, NGOs, foundations, and academics.

Madame Michelle Bachelet, former President of Chile and current Under Secretary General and Executive Director of UN Women delivered the keynote address at the briefing via video message.
